2019 Joe Fish Golf League

• If your ball goes into the woods and is unplayable, you may take a drop 2 club lengths from the point of entry.
• You can roll your ball for a preferred lie at a reasonable distance if you are not in the woods. This does not mean you can roll several yards to get out from behind that tree that is in front of you.
• With the condition of the sandtraps at FC, you may pick up the ball, rake and place your ball in a similar position in the trap.
• You may leave the pin in the hole while putting without losing a stroke.
• The basis of this league is, and always has been, for a relaxed, gentlemanly good time. We ask that you exercise logic and a relaxed attitude when applying remote rules of golf. Fun and fair play should dictate the way you treat your matches and your opponent. None of us are pros…CHILL OUT!!

Welcome to the 2019 Joe Fish Golf League. Whether you are new to the League or a veteran, we encourage everyone to read this page. This is a relaxed league and the honor system is expected.  Relaxation of the rules is permitted when opponents are in agreement. This will be our seventeenth year and we expect it to be another fun and competitive summer.  We are open to any and all comments and suggestions to improve the league.  Any suggestions will be immediately responded to with the following comment, "Great idea!!  Can YOU take care of it?" 

USGA RULE EXCEPTIONS

Lost Ball, Out of Bounds, or Ball in a Hazard, unplayable lie, are all treated the same. One Stroke Penalty, no loss of distance, drop the ball within two club lengths of the point of entry. This is not the fairway, nor is it far enough so you may get around a tree.

Only Putts "inside the leather" may be conceded. Outside the leather, you must putt out, the putt may not be conceded by your opponent.

Bare dirt in the fairway or rough is "ground under repair". Take a free drop, nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole, without any penalty.

A ball plugged or lying in a wet area or mud may be moved without penalty. If a ball clearly plugged and cannot be found, you can drop another ball as close as possible to where you think the ball plugged without a penalty stroke.

There is a 1 stroke penalty for any cell-phone ring.

THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE: Any rule infraction not benefiting the player is ignored. "You saw nothing."

The success of the league depends on players showing up for their match's.  If you can't make it, you can contact one of the players from the subs page on this website. If you can’t get one of the subs, call or email us and we'll do our best to get one for you.  If you do happen to get a sub, please email us so we know they are coming.

Substitute Handicaps – It has been decided that, going forward, we will use a handicap, official or assumed, for a substitute if they have not submitted a score with the league. I.e. your sub does not have an official handicap but admits to being as poor a golfer as you are. We will use your handicap for the round. This way the opponent has a number to shoot for rather than a blind round. This decision was made with the assumption that this is meant to be a fun league and if someone is going to inflate a handicap for the purpose of screwing someone we will not welcome them back.

We are always open to your suggestions to improve this league. We are proud of what we have done in our first year. This league was formed to exist for the long-term. We feel we have already become a league that others want to participate in. Enjoy!!
